The 1st XI currently plays in the Lincolnshire County League Premier Division. Following a strong season in 2007, in which we only fell marginally short of promotion, we have firm ambitions of gaining promotion into the County Board league next season. The future looks good with a strong looking side expected in the coming 2008 season. Resident Aussie Wade McCall is taking on the skipper’s role for the fourth season running, and with a return to Oz looming he will be in no mood to leave the UK a loser!!
The 2nd XI has a new and exciting future ahead of it for the 2008 season. After playing a 2nd XI in the East Lindsey Cricket League for many years, the club has decided to make the plunge into life on a bigger stage in 2008. An application to join the South Lincs and Border League has been accepeted. We will begin life in Division 3 of this league, with ambitions of being strong enough to move into a higher division within a short period. Mark Elsom has taken on the skipper's role for 2008, who will be ably supported by Vice Captain (and brother) Jason Elsom. It is down to these two to mould the 2nd XI into a stronger more consistent side, offering better support to an ever imroving 1st XI. The 2nd XI is traditionally composed of a healthy mix of youth and experience. Most junior cricketers at the club will begin their journey in league cricket with the 2nd XI.
The Sunday XI offers club members an opportunity to play more competitive cricket that ever before. With the recent changes to the 2nd XI the Sunday side will now enter the East Lindsey Cricket League, so that we can maintain our support for this league and offer more opportunities for players to test themselves in league cricket. Skipper for 2008 is the charismatic Trev Hill, who will look to involve a mixture of 1st & 2nd XI cricketers as well as members from the junior element.
We have a growing and thriving youth section where youngsters can have fun and enjoy themselves at the same time as receiving instruction from the coaching staff. Coaching is provided in a safe environment and aims to help the youngsters play the game in the correct spirit at as high a level of expertise as possible. The club is committed to improving youth cricket in the local community and hopes to expand the size of the section over the next couple of seasons. This season (2008), Skegness CC is playing matches at Under 11, 13 and 15 sides for the first time. In short, the future looks good.
Skegness CC is fortunate to have some excellent facilities at its disposal. The ground is a truly wonderful place to play cricket and the pavilion and bar facilities compliment the ground superbly. We have good training facilities, with two artificial tracks and permanent nets available to all cricketers.
